"Our program is more effective as a result of the collaboration fostered by MTCASA amongst the local Montana CASA programs." - Scott Appel Executive Director, CASA of Missoula

Loss of Federal Funding to NCASA
Along with the entire Montana CASA/GAL Network, Montana CASA/GAL Association (MTCASA) was saddened to hear that National CASA/GAL (NCASA) received a notice on April 22 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding the termination of their federal grant awards. We stand in solidarity with NCASA as they are appealing the termination. The impact of this loss to the MTCASA
Network is minimal as we continue to provide uninterrupted services to children and families. Overall, the Montana Network is not fiscally reliant on NCASA federal dollars. MTCASA did have a federal grant via NCASA but is fortunate to have other funding sources that will help fill the gap. The need for continual fundraising remains vital and we encourage and welcome donations to the state organization
and to all local programs. The recruitment and training of high quality advocates and adherence to NCASA Standards to Local Programs also continues uninterrupted. Montana CASA consists of stand- alone nonprofit organizations.
We are grateful to the Montanans who consistently support their local and state CASA organizations with their dollars, volunteer commitments and overall support. We are grateful that the strength of the Montana CASA Network is made possible by the continued support provided by the communities we serve and all those who support our mission and the children and families we serve. We are hopeful that the National organization remains resilient during this trying time. The loss of federal funding does affect some more than others across the U.S. and our heart aches for the children who may now go without an advocate and a voice. To take action, contact your U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to advocate for continued federal support of CASA/GAL programs nationwide.
MTCASA Endowment
Thanks to the generosity of Tom & Carol McElwain, Montana CASA/GAL Association (MTCASA) has established an endowment with the Montana Community Foundation. This fund provides ongoing support for MTCASA’s mission to advocate for Montana’s most vulnerable children.
